This illustration is based on the characters Dinnie and Heather from Martin Millar’s The Good Fairies of New York. I aimed to capture an everyday moment between them—watching TV together in Dinnie’s apartment—while staying true to the tone and descriptions from the book.
To create an authentic setting, I paid close attention to how the author described Dinnie’s living space and supplemented that with research into typical New York apartment layouts and architectural details. Character design and interaction were informed by their personalities and appearance as described in the novel, blending realism with a touch of whimsy to reflect the story’s unique balance of the mundane and the magical.
